Great photographs often require a mix of patience and luck. This panoramic view of Český Krumlov is the perfect example of being in the right place at the right time.

While there are several viewpoints of Český Krumlov that are easily accessible at twilight, this photo was taken from the castle restaurant terrace. Perched high above the river bend, this small area is usually closed once darkness falls. However, an unexpected stroke of luck left the gate unlocked just as the blue hour blanketed the city and the warm glow of the ancient town center began to shine.

On the left, the massive stone facade of the Český Krumlov Castle stands illuminated against the rich twilight sky. In the middle, the silhouette of St. Vitus Church tower stands tall above the city, while the calm waters of the Vltava River beautifully reflect the golden night lights below.
