Vincent van Gogh was a misunderstood outcast during his life, deeply haunted by his own inner demons. He discovered a passion for painting at the age of 27. Over the next 10 years, he produced around 2,100 works, including some 860 oil paintings. When he passed away in July 1890 in the French town of Auvers-sur-Oise under circumstances that remain shrouded in mystery, he had sold only a single painting. Today, he stands as a towering icon of Post-Impressionism and one of the most influential figures in the history of art.
His legendary works come to life from July 2026 until January 2027 at the immersive Vincent van Gogh exhibition, which opened on July 15, 2026, at Bratislava’s Sports Mall. At the heart of the exhibition is the immersive room—a space where state-of-the-art 360-degree projection technology breathes life into Van Gogh’s most celebrated masterpieces. The viewer becomes a part of many paintings including The Starry Night, Sunflowers, Almond Blossoms, The Yellow House, and Wheatfield with Crows.
Accompanying the main experience is a special showcase of Slovak Impressionism, alongside an exhibition of late 19th-century fashion and traditional Slovak folk costumes.
To mark the opening night, artist Nikola Zsuriková held a live painting session, creating a large-format piece that bridges Van Gogh’s enduring legacy with contemporary art right before the guests’ eyes.
