Savica waterfall rushing down a steep cliff into a vibrant emerald pool

Savica waterfall cuts powerfully through the steep karst cliffs. Because of its size and speed, I didn’t need to use a long exposure to blur the water. A mere 1/8 of a second gave the rushing water a silky, smooth texture. On the right, vibrant green moss and trees frame the falls. At the bottom, the water crashes into a breathtaking, crystal-clear emerald pool. This unique natural wonder hides deep within the Triglav National Park near Lake Bohinj. It ranks among the most famous landmarks in Slovenia. Travel bloggers and photographers love to explore this destination for several reasons:

  • The Height Myth: Many people think it is the highest waterfall in Slovenia. However, the mighty Boka waterfall actually holds that title.

  • The A-Shape: The main vertical drop measures around 78 meters, while a smaller second stream drops from 25 meters.

  • The Twin Streams: The waterfall splits into these two distinct parts inside a hidden underground cave system.

  • Cultural History: This spectacular place inspired France Prešeren, the most famous Slovenian poet, to write his masterpiece epic poem.

The immense power of the water creates a natural blur even at faster shutter speeds. The lush green vegetation adds a perfect splash of color to the dramatic stone scenery.
