Ponte Vecchio Blue Hour, Florence, Italy reveals a peaceful side of the otherwise bustling Tuscan capital. I captured this medieval stone arch bridge in the quiet moments just before dawn, when the deep blue sky hangs over the illuminated facade and the calm waters of the Arno River.
Completed in 1345, the Ponte Vecchio is the oldest bridge in Florence. While it has been home to goldsmiths and jewelers since 1593, the quiet of the early morning strips away the commercial hustle, leaving only the raw beauty of its traditional yellow and orange architecture.
Running silently above the shuttered shops is the famous Vasari Corridor (Corridoio Vasariano), an elevated enclosed passageway built to connect the Palazzo Vecchio with the Pitti Palace. Interestingly, 2016—the year this photograph was taken—was the exact year the corridor was closed to the public for safety reasons. Following a comprehensive, eight-year-long renovation, it finally reopened in May 2024.
