Geographical center of Europe - A tribute to Karol Plicka
SlovakiaA late Summer afternoon at Geographical center of Europe just outside of Kremnicke Bane, Central Slovakia. A lonely church of John the Baptist stands here, surrounded by the beautiful nature.
Artist’s note: Because the scene looked so pastoral, I decided to make this a tribute to Karol Plicka – a Czechoslovakian filmmaker and photographer. He began to film and photograph Slovak folk culture in late 1920s and 1930s. Without his work, many of the folk costumes, traditions and buildings would be lost in one way or another. In order to “move back in time” I altered the scene by removing some modern elements visible at this location. Most notably a powerline and a roof of the cloister of the Order of Friars Minor Capuchin.
