Vintgar Gorge Zig Zag path of the Radovna River cutting through steep canyon walls covered in green moss.

Vintgar Gorge Zig Zag water flow perfectly captures the raw, kinetic energy of the Radovna River as it carves its way through the limestone strata. This stunning section of the ravine highlights the dramatic S-shaped curves created by millennia of continuous water erosion.

The steep, moss-covered walls enclosing the river create a sheltered microclimate where the water remains icy cold year-round. Remarkably, until its accidental discovery by the local mayor and a cartographer in 1891, this entire gorge was completely inaccessible and unknown to the public. Today, the crystal-clear Alpine water in these hidden turns acts as a perfect natural mirror, reflecting the vibrant green canopy above.
