Veľké Hincovo pleso lake hidden behind rocks in early autumn, High Tatras, Slovakia

Velke Hincovo pleso is the largest and deepest glacial lake on the Slovak side of the High Tatras, usually photographed in its full, wide-open grandeur. However, in this photograph, I wanted to capture it from a completely different perspective—cleverly hidden behind the rocky ridges and golden autumn grass.

Framed by a weathered boulder covered in lichens in the foreground, the deep, dark water of the tarn contrasts beautifully with the fiery hues of the late-season vegetation. Towering in the background are the massive, dark stone walls of the Mengusovské Peaks, partially swallowed by heavy, dramatic storm clouds.

By narrowing the field of view and hiding a large part of the lake behind the terrain, I aimed to create a sense of mystery and intimacy, turning a well-known alpine landmark into a hidden, pristine sanctuary at the edge of the world.
