Rovinj Old Town and Marina look stunning during a beautiful early September pink sunset. I captured this ultra-wide panorama while everybody else was looking the other way. The crowds were gathering at the end of the pier, facing the other direction just to watch the red sun dip below the horizon. I turned my back to the mostly ordinary sunset and shot this incredibly wide panorama instead. The result is a breathtaking view of the historic center glowing in pink and violet tones.
The architecture you see has deep roots; Rovinj spent over 500 years under the rule of the Venetian Republic, which heavily influenced the layout of these tightly packed, pastel-colored houses. But what makes this specific image unique is its massive scale—the final stitched panorama sits at approximately 234 megapixels. At a 1:1 zoom level, the detail is so extreme that you can almost see the faces of the people across the harbor. With such sharpness and insane details, it practically turns into a real-life game of “Where’s Waldo?” among the distant crowds. Who knows, maybe he really was there that evening.
