Bojnice Castle Private Chapel captured from the upper balcony. Apart from the numerous frescoes, the cenerpiece of the chapel is the Bojnice Altar, the only fully preserved masterpiece by the 14th-century Florentine painter Nardo di Cione.
In 1933, the chapel was the scene of a daring heist when thieves hid inside after hours to steal the altar’s panels. For decades, the altar remained in Prague, undergoing restoration and caught in the tides of history. The altar returned to Bojnice Castle in 1995.
