Hungarian Parliament Evening, Budapest, Hungary

A cloudy May evening view of Hungarian Parliament Building from the banks of Danube River. With the length of 268 meters, it has been the largest building in Hungary since its full completion in 1904.

Artist’s Note: A barely visible part of the crane located behint the Parliament building was retouched. Minor inconsitencies caused by the busy boat traffic on the Danube were fixed after the panorama was created.

Golden Lane Twilight, Prague Castle, Czech Republic

The world of magic opens when the twilight hits Prague castle and Golden Lane, which I consider to be the real Diagon Alley. The Golden Lane is a narrow street located inside the giant Prague Castle Complex. Originally built to house Rudolf II castle guards, the small houses later became home to Goldsmiths in 17th century. Brimming with tourists during the day, it’s well worth to visit during the long opening hours in the Summer months to soak in the peaceful atmosphere and beauty of many corners of the Prague castle.

Cesky Krumlov Summer Midday

A beautiful summer midday view of the medieval town of Cesky Krumlov. Behind the old houses with tiled roofs is the large castle complex of Cesky Krumlov and The Church of St. Vitus to the right. Midday blue sky and puffy clouds can look stunning as well.

Banska Stiavnica Rooftops from the Old Castle 2022

A late afternoon stormy light on the balcony of the Old Castle overlooking the rooftops of the historic center of Banska Stiavnica. Located in Central Slovakia, Banska Stiavnica was one of the most important cities of Hungarian Empire, getting its riches from gold and silver. On the left, engulfed in the storm clouds is the now restored Calvary complex. The central part of the photo displays the rooftops of various mining houses, museums, three churches and a city hall with clock tower. On the hill to the right is the New Castle, built in 16th century as a watch tower agains the Otoman attacks. Sadly, several buildings on this photograph were heavily damaged by the fire on March 18th 2023. This view won’t look the same for some time.

Geographical center of Europe – A tribute to Karol Plicka

A late Summer afternoon at Geographical center of Europe just outside of Kremnicke Bane, Central Slovakia. A lonely church of John the Baptist stands here, surrounded by the beautiful nature.

Artist’s note: Because the scene looked so pastoral, I decided to make this a tribute to Karol Plicka – a Czechoslovakian filmmaker and photographer. He began to film and photograph Slovak folk culture in late 1920s and 1930s. Without his work, many of the folk costumes, traditions and buildings would be lost in one way or another. In order to “move back in time” I altered the scene by removing some modern elements visible at this location. Most notably a powerline and a roof of the cloister of the Order of Friars Minor Capuchin.

Mikulasa Schneidera Trnavskeho, Trnava, Slovakia

A brilliant fall evening on Mikulasa Schneidera Trnavskeho Street in Trnava, Slovakia. The narrow street is named after Trnava native Mikulas Schneider Trnavsky – a famous Slovak composer and conductor. The Church of Saint Nicolas, one of town’s most famous landmarks, is located at the end of the street.

The house of Black Madonna is a prime example of cubist architecture, designed by Josef Gočár in 1911. The spiral staircase is one of the many cubist treasures hidden both inside and outside of the building. When looked at from the proper angle, it indeed looks like an incandescent light bulb.

A handful of visitors enjoy a quiet evening at 3rd courtyard of Prague Castle, which is dominated by Saint Vitus Cathedral. This beautiful Gothic Cathedral is the largest of its kind in Czech republic. It was my first visit to Prague Castle during the long opening hours and I really enjoyed the place without the crowds.

Franz Kafka Rotating Head, Prague, Czech Republic

An abstract view of Franz Kafka’s Rotating Head Statue, designed by Czech sculptor David Cerny. The bust consists of 42 stainless steel plates that rotate indepndently. The total weight of the statue is 39 tons. I really enjoyed my attempts to capture sections of this kinetic artform.
